Training, Qualifications and Experience

Having first experienced person-centred counselling as a client, I started my counselling training in 2012 and completed my Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Person-Centred Pathway) at the City Lit Institute in Covent Garden in 2018.

I am an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (membership number: NCS21-01279) and I follow their Code of Ethics.

I work for a large government department where I am both an active member of their LGBT network and a certified Mental Health First Aider. I am committed to creating a positive and inclusive workplace culture, and I have supported and advocated for people who have experienced discrimination in the workplace because of their sexual orientation. I understand that micro-aggressions can be felt just as acutely as blatant homophobia.

I have volunteered for a regional LGBTQ+ helpline, providing telephone and email support to LGBTQ+ people of all ages. Some of the issues I have been able to help with have included domestic abuse, often psychological in nature, and speaking with young people about how and when to come out.

In my personal life I have supported friends living with HIV, be it by helping them to access healthcare and specialist support, or by supporting them emotionally as they experience the fear and guilt that often go hand-in-hand with a diagnosis.

I offer my counselling services voluntarily to patients and their families at a local hospice, supporting them across a broad range of issues.

I work face to face, as well as via telephone and online video call. I am currently working towards a certificate in online and telephone counselling, and I have already received training in NHS video conferencing for counselling.

I am a member of the Person Centred Association and an active member of their affiliated Queer Encounter group. I also attend the annual Person-Centred Association and National Counsellors’ Day Conferences.

I am passionate about gender recognition and equality and I am a HeForShe male ally. HeForShe is a United Nations led programme, created by UN Women, focused on improving Gender Equality across the world.
